Why We Howl
The Halloween Howl is an opportunity for the established and the newer dragon boat community to share a day of racing, food and fun and to get to know each other a little better in the process.
Who’s Howling
The Oakland Renegades Dragonboat team puts on the Howl every year to bring established dragonboat clubs, corporate, and novice teams together for racing and fun. If you’re a new or novice team, these races are a great chance to practice your sport, compete against similar crews and rub shoulders with some of the salty, long time paddlers. Also, if you’ve been contemplating transitioning into a full time club, participating in fun and affordable races is an excellent way to help make that happen. Our goal is to help grow the sport in the Bay Area.
Schedule
6:30 AM | Arrive and set up the Paddler’s Village. |
7:00 AM | The Cafe du Renegades will open and feed all paddlers from all the teams a home made breakfast. The breakfast is included in your fee. Turn in waivers and any late payments to the registration table. |
7:45 | Captains’ meeting |
8:00 – 3:00 | Main body of racing for all divisions. |
1:30 | Start dropping off your pot luck dishes at the banquet room. Our staff will set up and serve the lunch buffet style. |
2:30 | Break down the Paddlers Village and pack up your stuff because now it’s lunch time. We’re asking all teams to bring dishes to share in a communal pot luck. |
2:30 – 5:30 | After party is also included in your race fees. There will be a quick awards ceremony where our one of a kind trophies will be passed out to the victorious and then a live band will rock the house. If you’ve been waiting to spring your Halloween costume on everybody, this is your moment. Beer and wine tickets will be available for a donation. |
3:00 – 5:00 | Live Music and dancing with The Vinyl 4 |
Fees
The fee for the day of racing, breakfast and entry to the after party is $30 per paddler. For minors (17 years & under), the fee is $20 per paddler. Refunds will be given in full if notification is given before the October 21 registration deadline. No refund will be given after that date.
Waivers
EACH PADDLER must submit a City of Oakland waiver form and a Renegades Dragon Boat Club waiver form. Please submit roster and waivers together, both forms are located in the Registration Packet. Bring your waivers to the registration table on race day between 7:00 and 7:30 AM.
